Rules and Regulations

  1.   To obtain a membership to SABA the applicant must be a Canadian citizen or live in Alberta for a minimum of six months a year. 
  2.   All animals claimed for awards must be taken within the boundaries of North America.
  3.  Any animals taken prior to being a SABA member will not be credited for awards.
  4. Any animals submitted for awards must be taken in accordance with the hunting regulations of the province or state being hunted.
  5. All animals must be taken under the rules of FAIR CHASE. Animals taken under the following circumstances are not eligible for awards and in some cases illegal:  Any hunting/killing method deemed unsportsmanlike by the Board of Directors will result in expulsion from SABA. 
    1. a) Swimming in water 
    2. b) Confined in a trap or snare   
    3. c) While confined behind fences as on game farms, etc., regardless of state or provincial regulations  
    4. d) From any power vehicle or power boat unless boat is at anchor  
    5. e) Privately stocked fishponds.
  6.  All animals submitted must be taken by no other means than muscular drawn and held bow and arrow. No crossbow entries will be accepted.
  7. Qualification to receive awards:    To receive an award, the onus is on the member to enter the animals at specified date, time, and location on a yearly basis. SABA is not liable. The responsibility and liability lies with the member.
    1. a) A picture of animal; preferably with bow hunter and weapon  
    2. b) Verification by witness; preferably a signed statement  
    3. c) The onus of proof of a bow kill is on the hunter.
    4. d) SABA membership must be purchased prior to opening day of the season in which an animal is harvasted in
  8.  Upon conviction on any wildlife or hunting offense, the member will be expelled from SABA, his/her name stricken from the membership list, and any forthcoming awards will not be given. Any individual who has been convicted of an illegal hunting offence and wishes to join or rejoin SABA must present their application to the SABA review board (Board of Directors).
  9.  Any member entering animals for awards which are found to be fraudulent will result in the expulsion of the member and all their entries from SABA. Future membership is dependent on the SABA review board (Board of Directors). If fraud is detected after the fact, the Awards Committee will make appropriate adjustments for other members' awards.
  10.  If an expelled member is allowed to rejoin SABA as a member, by the Board of Directors, the member will start their award program over.
  11. If entries are not entered at the yearly scoring day, they may be submitted for the awards system only, at the discretion of the Awards Committee, pending proof of bow harvest and kill date. Only animals of the calendar year may be entered for annual awards.
